The City of Puerto del Rosario, celebrated Monday, 9 May "Europe Day" with the traditional hoisting of the flag as a symbol of European unity and identity of Europe.
every 9 May marks the speech 61 years ago by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in which he proposed the creation of an organized Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations in a continent that he feared the outbreak of World War III. This proposal, known as "Schuman Declaration", is considered the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union.
In 1985, in commemoration of that historic event, it was decided to May 9 as the official holiday of the European Union, ie the Day of Europe.
Currently, the municipality of Puerto del Rosario is a recipient of aid from the European Regional Development Fund for Local Sustainable Development and Urban, who's primary goal is to achieve a balanced economic and social development of the territory supported by sustainable growth and creating more jobs and better quality.
