Celebrating Open Access at the University of Puerto Rico, 19-23 October 2009


PROGRAM
Graduate School of Science and Information Technology, Library and Information Science Library System Library and Information Resource Center and Technology, Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Campus River Stones are pleased to invite you to the first celebration of Open Access Week at the university.

With this conclusion we join efforts in PLoS = Public Library of Science, a nonprofit organization of scientists and medical experts committed to making the world's scientific and medical literature a public resource. Its primary objective is to make available to all scientific research, facilitate research, informed medical practice and education by enabling the free search the full text of each article to locate specific ideas, methods, results of experiments and observations.

We define Open Access as a free, permanent access to the full-text material, scientific and scholarly, refereed journals. Extend the definition to the use of technological tools that can be used to create products and services, aimed at studying and research, and facilitate the information and knowledge are more accessible to all stakeholders on equal footing.

The event will be co-sponsored the Student Council of the GSIST, ACURIL (Association of University Libraries, Institutional Research and the Caribbean)-Chapter of Puerto Rico, ASEGRABCI (Association Graduates of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science), Beta Beta Kappa Chapter of Puerto Rico, and SBPR (Library Company of Puerto Rico).

The event is free of charge and receive a certificate for each of the activities as part of their professional development.
